Whether you are coming to the Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center to begin your prostate cancer treatment, or for a second opinion, our specialists are committed to helping you understand your cancer diagnosis and treatnlent options so you can make an informed decision about the best plan of care. Our experienced physicians offer the latest advances in surgical and medical options. The Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center at NWH provides a compassionate, multi-disciplinary support team to assist you through your cancer therapy and beyond.
Treatment options for localized prostate cancer include active surveillance (for non-aggressive early stage cancer), radiation therapy, cryosurgery, or robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery.
When the cancer is more advanced (has grown outside of the prostate itself) therapies may include External Beam Radiation Therapy, hormones, anti-androgens, specialized radioactive isotopes, or chemotherapy. Our doctors can also help you enroll in a clinical trial to receive a new drug which has begun to show promise.
Our goals are to cure the cancer and preserve as much quality of life as possible, as well as to have our patients quickly resume normal daily activities.
For these reasons the Cancer Center offers the most advanced minimally invasive robotic surgery using the da Vinci Surgical System®. The precision, visional enhancement, and dexterity provided by the da Vinci Surgical System allow your surgeon to conduct highly technically advanced prostate surgery through minute incisions. In our experienced hands, this approach is associated with excellent cancer control, preservation of urinary control and sexual function in most patients} and a rapid recovery.
We encourage you to meet with one of our specialists to learn more at The Institute for Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery
